My journey into theatre lighting
My journey into theatre lighting began at just 14 years old with work placements at The Met in Bury, where I contributed to multiple productions. I also had the privilege of assisting the LX1 for Blood Brothers at The Palace Theatre in Manchester. At 16, I honed my craft further at the Gordon Craig Theatre under the guidance of owner and Lighting Designer Bob.
I then transitioned into professional performance until the age of 28, all while assisting with technical elements backstage during my days off. Due to unforeseen ill health, I took early retirement from performing and returned to my true passion: backstage technical roles, where I have remained ever since.
My passion for illuminating stories
I am consistently driven by the challenge of bringing a production's story to life through my technical knowledge. I thrive on challenges and am known for my creative use of colour. I particularly enjoy opportunities to experiment with more avant-garde design styles.
Beyond design, I am passionate about mentoring the next generation of lighting operators and designers, sharing my experience and fostering new talent in the industry.
My unique approach to design
With extensive experience in both large-scale and intimate theatres, I bring a unique perspective to my designs. I am committed to adhering to budgets, often finding ways to reduce equipment costs without compromising quality.
My time in amateur theatre taught me innovative methods for achieving impactful, story-driven effects with lower budgets, mirroring the results of high-end systems. This adaptability ensures that every production, regardless of its scale, receives exceptional lighting design.

I am always on the lookout for emerging companies and relish opportunities to work on brand new productions where my creativity can truly shine. While I am skilled in lighting any band or concert, my true passion and heart will always remain in the theatre. I aim to continue creating visually stunning and emotionally resonant lighting designs that enhance every performance.
